PackSwap PZ is a Plastic Free Penzance initiative to re-use plastic packaging that comes into the town, saving businesses and the community money and reducing our impact on the local environment.

It came about as Plastic Free Champion businesses in the town looked for solutions to reduce single-use plastic. Despite taking action across their own operations, they were still being sent copious amounts of bubble wrap, packaging peanuts and other plastic nasties with deliveries. In conjunction with putting pressure on those suppliers to find alternatives to plastic wrap … they also started informal swaps with neighbouring businesses to re-use what had been delivered and save money.

And so it came to pass that PackSwap PZ was born! Initially a business to business scheme it has quickly rolled out so now members of the community can come and collect any packaging they need for things like moving, ebay sales and postage.

A six month pilot ends in February 2020 at which point we will review how it’s gone and uptake of the service. As the adage goes … use it or lose it! Here are the details:

Location: Unit One Wharfside Shopping Centre
Business Drop Off: Every Tuesday 5.30 – 6.30pm
Business and Public Pick Up: Every Thursday 5.30 – 6.30pm
Packaging collected: Bubble Wrap, Packing Peanuts, Poster Tubes, Plastic Bags, Air Pockets & Jiffy Bags

We are run completely by volunteers and will always need people to man the packaging hub on Tuesday or Thursday nights for an hour. Please contact us on plasticfreepz@gmail.com if you can help.

Many thanks  … and happy PackSwapping!
